Christmas Trip

We left for our annual trip to Red River on the 22nd around 5am. As soon as we got north of the metroplex the winds started blowing around 35 mph. It was a chore to keep the car on the road. We met up with my parents and oldest sister in Wichita Falls for breakfast. A little northwest of there, the snow flurries started in. We came upon the biggest wreck we have ever seen in Amarillo. There were white out conditions that morning and about 2 hours before we got there there was an 80 car pileup on the opposite side of the freeway. It was still icy heading through Dumas, but after that it was smooth sailing all the way to Red River.

Our first item to accomplish was to cut down the Christmas tree. So, on the 23rd Matt, Susan, Nathan, and I bundled up and headed out to get the tree. After trying to get Nathan's truck out (note to self, next truck should have 4 wheel drive) we scratched that and took my sister's Expedition. We have gotten lazy in our old age. We no longer load up on the snowmobiles and trek up the mountain trails to find the perfect tree, cut it down, tie it to the back of the snowmobile, and haul it back to the house. Now we load up in the car, drive down the road, walk 100 feet off the side of the road, find a tree, find a different tree, and a few more after that. Then we call the boys to come up, cut it down, and carry it down the hill to the car.

Here is this year's accomplishment.

Here is the view down the road from where we cut down the tree.

I will continue tomorrow!
