I have new posts to do about our last two weekends, but this one will be about my car. I have a Nissan Murano. (And I love it!) This weekend it started sputtering on me. Sort of like when you are first learning to drive a standard and you can't manage to let off the clutch and push the gas pedal correctly. It was lurching. So, Tuesday it actually died on me as I was pulling into my parking space at work. So I called the dealership and described what was happening. They told me to swing by after work. They thought they knew what the problem was and it would only take 2 seconds to fix.
So at 5 I head to the dealership which is not very far from my office. As I come to one of the stop lights that is red I am dreading stopping. Sure enough the car dies one me. I put it in neutral and start it up. No problems as I move the car into drive and we continue on our journey. I am coming up to the next to last light before I cross over the highway to get to the dealership. The light is red. Dread comes over me again. The car dies. I put it into neutral and restart the car. No problem. I put it into drive. The car dies again. I repeat this whole process at least 20 times. My car refuses to go forward. A very nice man (thankfully there are still some of those in this world) pulled off the road, waved traffic around me and pushed my car over to the left turning lane out of the way. And I got on the phone to the Nissan dealership to tell them I was stuck. The wonderful service guy came out to fix my car.
He lifts the hood and immediately notice the problem that they thought it was. A hose had come loose. He puts it back on and gets in the car to start it. It starts (of course, because this is not the problem the car is having), he puts it into drive, and it dies again. Now the service guy is really puzzled. This story is getting way too long. The Nissan people call a tow truck. And we eventually head back to the dealership. It is now 6:30 and too late to even start figuring out the problem. Nathan and G come to rescue me and take me home.
Next morning, we head to work and school. We dropped Nate off first. Though not a good idea with G in the car. He was screaming "my instruments, my instruments" as we left the school. I finally get in touch with the Nissan people around 1pm. Things don't look good they tell me. You see my fabulous car has a new type of transmission, CVT. (Affectionaly called "my hamsters") Nissan said "something in the CVT is dead".
So, this whole ordeal will probably take at least 5 days. I have a rental. And we are very happy the thing is still under warranty.
