I have decided to condense the number of cameras that I have. Right now I have a Sony digital camera and some type of film camera. With all this online picture stuff I think I should probably just switch to using the digital camera only. But my Sony is not the quality of camera that I really want. (What I really need to do is learn how to take better pictures.) So I have decided to get rid of the other two cameras and get a new Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera. Of course, I have not run this past Nathan yet.

Shannon,
For learning to take better pictures, this site is pretty good, even though they're trying to sell their software... It covers all the bases as far as general rules go. I would also say to study pictures you really like and see what they all have in common. I am on the same quest for learning to take better pictures.
My approach, so far, has been to upgrade my camera (I chose the digital rebel), learn EVERYTHING I can do with that camera (including how to use custom white-balance, what a histogram is, how to use manual mode (you'll be able to get better pictures if you're in control instead of the camera being in control... eventually) and taking full advantage of the digital macro feature when shooting close-ups...) and learn how to adjust the pictures after they're on the computer. Now that I have photoshop, my pictures are much much better, but any photo editing software should be able to do the basic stuff. Oh, and I take hundreds and hundreds of pictures. That's the glory of digital. If I don't like it, I delete it. It's easier to delete a photo than to miss the opportunity to have taken a good picture.
Hope some of that helps, if it doesn't confuse you first!
