I was going to put the whole trip in one post, but with so many pictures it was getting really long!!
We went to Red River, NM June 29th through July 6th. My sister and her family normally go up there for the 4th of July. So, this year we decided to stagger our trip with theirs. We only spent about 2 1/2 days there together. Our friends, Justin, Ashley, and Avery went with us. The first day was spent driving. Although even that had its adventures. Justin and Ashley had so much stuff in their car that they had to put their suitcase on top of the car. Justin learned why we always wrap our suitcases in giant trashbags. It rained from Dallas to Amarillo. Then upon leaving Amarillo, Nathan apparently hit a bird that bounced off and over our car and feathers and other things flew straight into Justin’s suitcase. I was doubled over laughing about this!!
The weather was fabulous! Lows in the 40’s and highs in the 70’s. The first day we decided to try out the summer tubing at the ski slopes that had just started. It was an absolute blast!!
July 1 – Our excursion for the day was a ride to the Rio Grande Gorge. We took a picnic lunch along with us. The scenery was just breathtaking. After walking safely back and forth across the bridge we jumped in the car and headed to the Taos Drum Factory. They make some amazing stuff there. They don’t give tours anymore, but we were able to go in the back where they were making some drums. We made it back to town in time to watch the gun fight. It was interrupted by a crazy afternoon rain storm. So we had to make a mad dash for the car. Not to mention that the kids were not too fond of the loud noises.
June 2 – The boys went on a fly fishing excursion which turned into an all day adventure. When left to their own doing, the boys don’t take any pictures. So nothing from that day.
June 3 – The day that the other half arrive. We hung out at the house in the morning. Then everyone loaded up that afternoon to head to town. The community center was having an activity for the kids where they build their own boat and then take them to the river for a race. You could use between 2 and 6 pieces of wood. And you had to paint it. I am not sure if the kids or the big guys had more fun! After that was done Garrett wanted to ride the bull.
