Food, family, and the emergency room

I have had a wonderful week being on vacation. I even went to the spa for a massage and a facial. However, I did come down with a little bug on Wednesday. It only lasted two days though, so I am ok now.

Wednesday we went to Nathan's aunt's house to assist with the Thanksgiving preparations. We had a really good time helping out. Thursday we started out at home trying to help my mom out by cooking a couple of dishes. I don't know how people do it cooking an entire Thanksgiving dinner. Those two dishes almost killed me. It did not help that I had never done either of them before. I did not get to watch any of the Macy's parade. But at least I recorded it. I am hoping to watch it sometime this weekend.

Then we headed to my parent's house for Thanksgiving lunch. Garrett and the girls were running all over the house like crazy people. (Oh won't Christmas be fun when we are all in the same house for an entire week.) Lunch was fabulous!! And Garrett was quite the eater. (Still no meat though!) We cleaned up and then the kids helped decorate the Christmas tree upstairs. Garrett's version of decorating was to throw the ornaments at the tree and see where they landed. It actually worked quite well for a few of them. The kids put the ornaments on and my sisters and I rearranged them. Garrett loves to copy what the girls say. And the girls call my mom grandma. The way it came out of Garrett's mouth was "Gee-ma". It was extremely cute!!

After G's nap we headed to Nathan's aunt's house again. We visited with family there and had some delicious leftovers. Garrett had a great time chasing the dog around the house.

Friday, we opted out of shopping. We decided to put up our tree instead. I bet you are wondering where the emergency room comes into play. Well, G had been coughing for a couple of days and Friday was not different. I gave him a couple of doses of cough and cold medicine during the day on Friday. When he woke up from his nap around 4pm he was horribly wheezing and coughing. After a call to the ped we did 3 nebulizer treatments. Since that is the most we can do at one time, we were instructed to take him to the emergency room. So about 6 we headed to the hospital. Triage was not G's definition of a good time. They had to check his oxigenation level, and he really hates it when they put that thing on his toe. Then they took his temperature rectally. Then we were off to a room. After some chest and neck xrays they determined that he has croup. So we are at home resting, taking cough medicine, doing neb treatments, and watching lots of tv.

Today he is doing better with his breathing. Still coughing, but at least he is sleeping well.
