We got to the hospital about 8:30. We checked in then went upstairs to the outpatient surgery. They asked all sorts of questions. Garrett has some chest congestion right now. (Of course, when doesn't he have congestion problems.) Anyway, they decided that since he is always sick they would just go ahead with the surgery. After he got changed into a gown and everything we had to wait in the waiting room. Luckily, they had lots of toys. They did not take us back until about 11:15. Then they sprayed stuff in his nose to make him relax. After a couple of minutes they took him back to the operating room and I went to the waiting area. About 5 minutes later they came out and said that they decided not to do the surgery. His chest was extremely tight and it was constricting back towards his spine. His breathing passage was partly blocked where they did not think they coulod easily get the breathing tube down. The anestheologist felt that if they tried to do the surgery Garrett would end up spending three days in the ICU. They ended up doing a breathing treatment while he was there. So, we spent some time in the recovery room trying to get him to wake up and eat. About 1:00pm they finally decided that since he was drinking Dr. Pepper and eating potato chips that he could go home. But they wanted him to see his pediatrician.
So, off we went. On the way home I called the pediatrician. They said to come on in. He was still wheezing when we got there, he had a low grade fever, and his pulse ox level was not where they wanted it to be. So he had another breathing treatment at the ped's office. They gave us 4 prescriptions. Two are to mix in his nebulizer. One is a 3 day antibiotic. And the other is a steriod.
I have to call the ENT on Monday to reschedule the surgery. And I have to do one of the things in his nebulizer until he has his surgery. We did not make it back home until about 3:15. We are all exhausted.
